Bentley Nevada 3500 Rack Configuration Software 19: The Ultimate Guide for Machinery Protection Syst

Our 3500/50M Tachometer Module features 2 channels which accept input from Proximitor probes or magnetic pickups to measure shaft rotating speed, rotor acceleration, or reverse rotation. The 3500/50M Tachometer conditions the inputs and compares the conditioned signals with user-programmable set points that can drive alarms and relay logic in the 3500 relay modules. Alarm options offered with 3500 Rack Configuration software include Speed Band, Zero Speed, Rotor Acceleration and Reverse Rotation. The Keyphasor and speed measurements are also an integral part of the Bently Nevada Turbine Supervisory Instrumentation (TSI) suite of sensors for steam turbines. The 3500 System is available as a SIL 2 rated system and with multiple Hazardous Area and country-specific approvals available. External terminations and internal barrier versions are also available. You should note that the 3500/50M is not designed for Overspeed Detection.

The four-channel 3500/64 Dynamic Pressure Monitor accepts input from gas turbine dynamic pressure (combustion) transducers and uses this input to drive alarms. The monitor produces band-passed dynamic pressure measured variables. Programmable corner frequencies for the bandpass filter and an additional notch filter can be adjusted as needed. A typical application identifies and tracks gas turbine combustor instabilities. Dynamic Pressure sensors use Bently Nevada charge amplifiers 350500 or 86517 and can integrate a multitude of common dynamic pressure sensors, including the CP series sensors. Additionally, the 3500/64 is available with multiple Hazardous Area and country-specific approvals to tackle any environment.

3500/92 Communication Gateway integrates easily with process control networks and other automation systems using both Ethernet TCP/IP and serial (RS232 / RS422 / RS485) communications capabilities. Permits communications via Modbus using 3500 Rack Configuration Software. The 3500/92 can be configured using the 3500 Rack Configuration software to produce a custom or condensed Modbus map for communications using fixed or configurable registers. All vital rack information including direct vibration, gap, 1X, 2X, Smax, channel statuses, rack status, trip multiply, rack reset, and others can be easily communicated.

Bently Nevada Cabinets provide robust protection for all 3500 racks and the infrastructure they require. The cabinets simplify site installation, provide protection for installed instrumentation and facilitate ongoing ease-of-use and maintenance and include instrumentation options.

The 3500/06 Weatherproof Housing protects the 3500 System against adverse environmental conditions such as excessive moisture, dirt, grime and unclean air. An optional purging system protects the rack from outside elements. The housing is available in epoxy-coated steel or 304 stainless steel and as a SIL 2 rated system with multiple Hazardous Area and country-specific approvals.

The 3500/15 AC and DC Power Supplies are half-height modules and must be installed in designated slots on the left side of the rack. The 3500 rack can contain one or two power supplies with any combinations of AC and DC. Either supply can power a full rack.

The 3500/22M, also known as the Transient Data Interface Module (or TDI), is the heart of the 3500 rack system. It allows for configuration of the 3500 rack parameters and serve as the gateway to the System 1 Machinery Condition Monitoring software platform.

The TDI is equipped with a USB port on the front for easy access for configuration, and a 10/100 Ethernet connection on the rear I/O module for communicating with System 1. A rack reset button on the front allows alarm reset with a physical key to lock out configuration changes.

135813-01 is a Display Interface I/O Module developed by Bently Nevada. The System Display is intended to meet the criteria of API Standard 670 and to give a local or remote visual indication of all 3500 Machinery protection System information housed in the rack, such as System Event Lists, Alarm Event Lists, and so on.

Using unique hinged support, it displays mounts easily over the front panel of any full-size 3500 racks. This enables access to the user interface buttons and switches as well as the buffered output connectors on the rack without detaching or turning off the display.

To address this vulnerability, Bently Nevada recommends users obtain 3500 Rack Configuration Version 6.6 or higher from Bently Nevada, which now includes a feature to set enhanced password security. For users that have their 3500 System(s) connected to Bently Nevada's System 1 software, enhanced password security is supported for System 1 Version 21.2 and higher. Using enhanced password security on the 3500 system will break communications with any earlier version of System 1 below Version 21.2

The power supplies and rack interface module reside in the left-most part of the rack which is not counted as a slot i.e. remaining 14 for full and 7 for mini rack are used for other module installation.Power Supply Module (3500/15)The 3500/15 power supply is half heightened module installed on the leftmost side of the rack and installed one above the other creating a redundant system. The respective parts are listed below and also shown in the above figure.3500/15 AC and DC Power Supplies OK LEDLegacy Low Voltage DC Power Input ModuleLegacy High Voltage DC Power Input ModuleLegacy High Voltage AC Power Input ModuleLegacy Low Voltage AC Power Input ModuleUniversal AC Voltage Power Input ModuleHigh Voltage DC Power Input ModuleLow Voltage DC Power Input ModuleThe power supply can be replaced in the running system also as long as the other power supply in the system is working.

The 3500/15 AC and DC Power Supplies accept a wide range of input voltages and convert them to voltages acceptable for use by other 3500 modules. The following power supplies are available with the 3500 Series Machinery Protection System:Universal AC Power Supply (85 to 264 Vac RMS),High Voltage DC Power Supply (88 to 140 Vdc), andLow Voltage DC Power Supply (20 to 30 Vdc). The health of the power supply module is determined by the TDI module.Transient Data Interface Module (3500/22M)The 3500/22M Transient Data Interface (TDI) is the interface between the 3500-monitoring system and System 1 Condition Monitoring, Diagnostic software, and 3500 System Configuration software.

TDI has a rack reset button also because the latching facility is used with some modules.TDI also has a key with 2 positions RUN (normal operation only) and PROGRAM (normal operation of the rack and also allows for local or remote rack configuration)Rack address is set from TDI module (127 address possible)4 Channel Proximitor Module (3500/40M)The 3500/40M Proximitor Monitor is a four-channel monitor which accepts input from Bently Nevada vibration monitoring system/proximity transducers and converts the data to vibration and position (as per configuration).

3500/94 is a Display Router Box manufactured by Bently Nevada. The Bently Nevada 3500/94 VGA Display shows 3500 data on a typical color VGA monitor using "Touch Screen" technology. The 3500/94 VGA module and its I/O card, as well as the VGA display monitor, are the two parts of this device. With normal cabling, the display monitor can be positioned up to 8 meters (25 feet) from the rack.

2. Connect the field wiring to the rack as described in theoperation andmaintenance manuals for all the modules installed inthe rack and in the3500 Field Wiring Diagram Package (part number130432-01).

Installing the SoftwareThe 3500 Rack Configuration Software, thetest utilities, and the configurationtutorial are shipped on a setof diskettes labeled 3500 Monitoring System RackConfigurationSoftware. One installation program installs all oftheseprograms.

Running the Configuration SoftwareA 3500 rack can contain avariety of modules that can be set up to operatedifferent ways. Theprocess of setting system, module, and channel options sothat allthe modules in a 3500 rack work together is calledconfiguration.

Configuring a 3500 rack consists of using the Rack ConfigurationSoftware toset options and then downloading the settings to therack. You can use theprogram two ways: You can run the program atany convenient place, save thesettings in configuration files, andthen later download the configuration to therack. Or you canconnect the computer to the rack first and then upload anddownloadthe configuration as required.

Configuring a New RackA 3500 Monitoring Rack cannot operatewithout a valid configuration. Use thisprocess after you haveinstalled the rack, set all switches and jumpers, andconnectedtransducers. If your rack came with a custom configuration fromthefactory, you can skip this procedure.
